Major themes in Gilgamesh include mortality, fear of death, and desire for power. The king, Gilgamesh, is mostly mortal but does have some attributes of a god. As we know Gilgamesh is not immortal and learns lessons about morality through his experiences with Enkidu and the time he enjoys while he is king. Gilgamesh also struggles with the fear of death when he loses his friend Enkidu and tries to do everything he can to prevent death like all people today who fear death. Gilgamesh also portrays the desire for power when Enkidu and Gilgamesh fight themselves for the "alpha" spot and how they fight beasts to gain power.
